A short walk away you will find Greyfriars Bobby Statue, a touching tribute to the loyal Skye Terrier who spent 14 years guarding his owner’s grave. Your first morning in Scotland will begin with enjoying a delicious family breakfast in the hotel. Meet your blue badge guide at hotel reception and you’re off to explore Edinburgh’s Historic Old Town. Walk the Royal Mile, one of Edinburgh's most famous streets where you’ll walk from Edinburgh Castle at the top, to Holyrood Palace at the bottom. Historic buildings, cobbled streets and charming shops, the tales of ghosts and dungeons, the fascinating history of an ancient city – the tour offers something of interest for every visitor. Following breakfast, you’ll visit Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most significant historical sites. Perched high on a volcanic rock, the castle provides panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and has played a central role in Scotland's history. Explore the beautifully restored Royal Palace, the Great Hall and the Chapel Royal while learning about figures like Mary, Queen of Scots, who once lived here. We recommend taking time to walk along the castle walls and enjoy breathtaking views of the Ochil Hills and the Wallace Monument.
A short drive from Stirling Castle takes you to the Battle of Bannockburn Experience, an interactive attraction that brings the famous 1314 battle to life. MORNING
As your Scotland family tour continues into the Highlands, our first stop at The Three Bridges following breakfast. You’ll enjoy a boat tour to see three of the most famous bridges that span the Firth of Forth. The structures represent three centuries of engineering, viewing from the water is a unique perspective that allows you to enjoy the surrounding natural and historical landmarks. Once back ashore grab a quick coffee/snack at the Outboard by Scotts before heading onto Blackness Castle.
Blackness Castle is a historic fortress located on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, near the village of Blackness. Often referred to as "the ship that never sailed" due to its unique shape resembling a stone ship jutting into the water, Blackness Castle has a rich history and offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into Scotland's past. Blackness Castle was made even more famous by its portrayal of Inverness Jail in the hit TV show Outlander.
AFTERNOON
After a morning of adventure you will start heading North towards Perthshire. A stop at the Trossachs Woolen Mill, a charming and picturesque destination located in the heart of the Trossachs National Park is well-known for its high-quality woollen goods and its role in showcasing traditional Scottish craftsmanship.
Take the opportunity to feed the resident highland coos with freshly made goody bags. Once the Coos have full bellies and you’ve got evidence of your time together, it’s time to head onto Pitlochry.
You’ll arrive at your home for the night, Atholl Palace, originally built as a luxury hotel in 1878, it’s now a multi-faceted attraction with plenty to do during your time there.
EVENING
Upon arriving at Atholl Palace, take a moment to explore the beautifully maintained grounds, which include gardens, woodland trails and a Japanese garden. If you have time, you might enjoy a visit to their Lavender Spa for a relaxing massage or dip in the swimming pool before dinner.
Enjoy a delightful dining experience at The Verandah Restaurant, which overlooks the Tummel Valley and offers a menu featuring the best of Scottish produce. The restaurant serves a mix of traditional Scottish dishes and contemporary cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients such as Highland venison, fresh Scottish salmon and Angus beef. You’ll move on from Atholl Palace to a scenic walk to Soldier’s Leap, located in the dramatic Killiecrankie Pass. This spot marks the legendary escape of a Redcoat soldier who is said to have jumped an astonishing 18 feet (5.5 meters) across the River Garry to flee the advancing Jacobite forces during the Battle of Killiecrankie (1689).

Stroll through the lush Killiecrankie Gorge, known for its rich wildlife and stunning autumn colours if your trip happens to be during fall. Stop at the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre, where you’ll find fascinating exhibits about the battle, the Jacobites and the local landscape. Admire the Soldier’s Leap viewpoint, where it explains the historical significance of this daring escape.
Next, you head to the fantastic Leault Farm, a must-visit for those interested in Scotland’s rural heritage. This working sheep farm offers a fascinating sheepdog demonstration, showcasing the skills of these highly trained Border Collies. Watch in awe as the dogs round up sheep with precision and speed. Learn about traditional sheep farming techniques in the Highlands. If you’re lucky, you might even get a chance to bottle-feed lambs (seasonal) or try your hand at shearing.
AFTERNOON
Following lunch, you will take a step back in time at the Highland Folk Museum, an open-air museum that brings Scotland’s past to life. Spanning over a mile, the museum has authentic reconstructed buildings from the 1700s to the 1950s, giving a glimpse into traditional Highland life. Explore a 1700s thatched Highland township, similar to the ones seen in Outlander. Visit a Victorian schoolhouse, a working blacksmith’s forge, and traditional croft houses. Enjoy interactive exhibits, including wool spinning and woodworking demonstrations. Stop by the on-site café for a quick snack or pack a picnic to enjoy in the scenic surroundings.

DAY 6
BATTLEFIELDS & ANCIENT SCOTLAND
MORNING
Our first stop is Culloden Battlefield, a significant historical attraction located near Inverness. Enjoy an immersive and educational insight into the Battle of Culloden, which took place on April 16, 1746, and was the last major battle fought on British soil. This site marks the decisive clash of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, where Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) led his forces against the British government army.
Your visit begins at the Culloden Visitor Centre, an immersive space that brings the events of that day vividly to life. Through interactive exhibits, original artefacts and personal accounts, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the lead-up to the battle, the people fighting, the strategies employed and its devastating aftermath.
A highlight of the experience is the 360-degree battle immersion, placing you at the heart of the conflict as it happened. From there, step out onto the battlefield itself, a stark and powerful landscape where markers trace the movements of both Jacobite and government troops.
You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the clan memorial stones and mass graves, a moving tribute to those who fell, before stopping at Leanach Cottage, one of the few surviving structures from the time, offering insight into life in 18th-century Scotland.
A short drive from Culloden is the Clava Cairns, a fascinating prehistoric site located near Inverness, Scotland, and is renowned for its ancient burial monuments and standing stones. The site offers a glimpse into Scotland’s ancient past, with structures that date back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.

You’ll cross the Greig Street Bridge – a charming Victorian-era suspension bridge offering great photo spots and walk through Ness Islands – a collection of small islands in the river, connected by elegant footbridges, surrounded by ancient trees.

DAY 7
MACBETH & MONSTERS
MORNING
Start your day with a visit to Cawdor Castle, a stunning medieval fortress with ties to Shakespeare’s Macbeth (though the historical connection is debated). Explore the castle’s lavishly decorated rooms, including the Drawing Room, Tapestry Bedroom, and Old Kitchen. Wander through the beautiful gardens, including the Walled Garden and Wild Garden or cross the charming stone bridge over Cawdor Burn for a perfect photo spot.
No family trip to Scotland is complete without a visit to Loch Ness, one of the most famous and mysterious lakes in the world. You’ll take a cruise on Loch Ness from Clansman Harbour or Fort Augustus. Enjoy stunning views of the loch’s deep, dark waters and surrounding hills. Learn about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) through onboard commentary. If you can’t spot Nessie, you’ll definitely spot Urquhart Castle from the water, an iconic ruin that played a key role in Scottish history.

Leaving Eriska we will journey to Mull which is one of the largest islands in the Inner Hebrides known for its diverse landscapes, rich wildlife and vibrant local culture. With rugged coastlines, rolling hills and charming villages Mull offers a range of experiences from outdoor adventures to historical exploration.
On arrival at Craignure we will travel across the island and catch another ferry which will take us the short distance to the Isle of Iona. The Abbey here is a site of profound historical and spiritual significance. Founded in the 6th century by St. Columba, it played a pivotal role in the spread of Christianity throughout Scotland and beyond. Today, it remains a centre for pilgrimage, reflection and historical exploration for many.

After a final breakfast in Skye, you’ll take the scenic drive down to Armadale and catch the ferry back to the mainland. Arriving in Malaig, the journey begins to Glenfinnan, a village located near the head of Loch Shiel. Here you’ll find one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks: the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This historic railway bridge was made famous as part of the Hogwarts Express route in the Harry Potter films, and it has become a must-see for fans of the series. Just a short walk from the viaduct, the Jacobite Museum is a treasure trove for fans of the Harry Potter franchise, as well as those interested in the Jacobite Rebellions of the 18th century. The museum displays memorabilia from the films, including costumes and props, as well as information about the Jacobite Uprising.
Leaving Glenfinnan, your driver will take you a short drive towards Fort William where you’ll experience a trip up Scotland’s highest mountain, but don’t panic, you don’t need to hike up – instead you will take the Nevis Gondola from the base of Aonach Mor, a mountain just outside of Fort William. The gondola will take you up to an altitude of around 2,000 feet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges, valleys, and the Ben Nevis massif. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Loch Linnhe and the Arrochar Alps in the distance. The gondola ride is an exhilarating experience, giving you the chance to enjoy panoramic views over Fort William and the surrounding landscape. It’s also a fantastic way to see Scotland’s rugged beauty from a different perspective.
AFTERNOON
Next stop Glencoe, take a drive through Fort William following Loch Linnhe down to one of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. Stop off at the Three Sisters Viewpoint, one of Scotland’s most dramatic and iconic locations. This spot offers stunning views of three prominent peaks that rise majestically from the valley floor. The Three Sisters (named Beinn Fhada, Gearr Aonach and Aonach Dubh) are part of the Glen Etive mountains and have become one of the most photographed landmarks in the Scottish Highlands due to their striking beauty. The view from the viewpoint shows the rugged terrain of the glen, where the dramatic slopes of the peaks lead down to a lush green valley floor.

The Glasgow Science Centre, is an engaging and interactive science and technology museum located on the south bank of the River Clyde, designed to inspire curiosity and learning through hands-on exhibits and activities suitable for all ages.
