Day 1

Morning

Your journey begins with a convenient airport transfer from Edinburgh Airport to The Virgin Hotel, a contemporary and stylish hotel located in the heart of Edinburgh. The transfer will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Upon arrival at The Virgin Hotel, check-in and settle into your room. Afterward, you can refresh, and your family can take a quick break before heading out for a short exploration of the city.

Afternoon

Once you're ready, head out to explore some of the most picturesque streets in Edinburgh. The Virgin Hotel is at the top end of Victoria Street, one of the most iconic and colorful streets in Edinburgh. Known for its rainbow-colored buildings, Victoria Street is full of charm. The winding, cobbled street is lined with quirky shops, cafes, and boutiques. Families will enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and can browse for unique souvenirs, local crafts, or quirky toys at some of the independent stores. Harry Potter fans, Victoria Street is said to have inspired Diagon Alley, so it’s a fun spot for a photo opportunity and for kids to imagine they’re in the wizarding world. 

 

Explore the Grassmarket, one of the most iconic and historically rich areas in Edinburgh, located in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. It's a vibrant square with cobbled streets, picturesque buildings, and an array of pubs, restaurants, shops, and cafes. It's also known for its fascinating history, dating back to medieval times. A shot walk away you will find Greyfriars Bobby Statue, a touching tribute to the loyal Skye Terrier who spent 14 years guarding his owner’s grave. Learn the heartwarming story of Bobby's devotion, and enjoy an authentic Scottish meal inside the tavern.

Evening

The castle is a historical marvel, home to the Crown Jewels of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, and the National War Museum. As you walk through the castle, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city from its ramparts, overlooking the Old Town, the New Town, and the surrounding countryside.

Afternoon

For a truly unique experience, visit Mary King’s Close, one of Edinburgh’s most intriguing attractions. This underground street network was hidden beneath the Royal Mile and was once home to people in the 17th century. During a guided tour, you’ll journey back in time and learn about life in Edinburgh’s past, from the cramped living conditions to the haunting tales of plague and superstition. The preserved streets give a fascinating glimpse into the city’s history, and the experience is both educational and a little spooky!

Evening

End your day with a visit to Camera Obscura & World of Illusions, located near the Edinburgh Castle. This quirky and entertaining attraction is perfect for families and those looking to add a bit of fun to their tour. It features optical illusions, interactive exhibits, and a unique Camera Obscura experience, where you'll view live images of the city projected onto a circular screen. The views from the top are amazing, and you can also take in Edinburgh's skyline from the rooftop.

Complete this action-packed day with an unforgettable dining experience. The Witchery by the Castle is an exceptional choice. Located just a stone's throw from Edinburgh Castle, The Witchery is housed in a historic building that has been transformed into a luxurious, atmospheric restaurant. Day 3

Castles, battles and sculptures

Using 3D technology and immersive exhibits, you’ll gain an understanding of the strategies used by Robert the Bruce to defeat the English army of King Edward II. After exploring the experience, you may wish to take a short walk to the nearby battlefield monument to pay homage to one of Scotland’s most important military victories.

Afternoon

Next, head to The Kelpies, located in The Helix park near Falkirk. These awe-inspiring 30-meter-tall steel horse head sculptures are a tribute to Scotland’s industrial heritage and its deep connection with working horses. Take a guided tour to learn about the sculptures' creation, or simply stroll around the park and enjoy the serene setting by the Forth and Clyde Canal.

Eveining

Return to Edinburgh for a well-earned dinner. The Royal McGregor is a Traditional Scottish, family-run pub and restaurant offering classic Scottish dishes with a twist. Their haggis, neeps & tatties are some of the best in town, and they also serve tasty whisky-infused dishes. It’s right on the Royal Mile, making it a convenient stop after returning from your day tour.

Day 4

Journey across the Firth of Forth

  • Itinerary: 3 Bridges Boat Tour, Blackness Castle, Trossachs Woolen Mill 

Morning

After a hearty breakfast the tour begins with the first stop at the 3 bridges. Take a Boat Tour to see three of the most famous bridges that span the Firth of Forth. This provides a unique perspective on these iconic structures, as well as the surrounding natural and historical landmarks. Once back ashore grab a quick coffee/snack at the Outboard by Scotts before heading onto Blackness Castle.

Blackness Castle, a historic fortress located on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, near the village of Blackness. Often referred to as "the ship that never sailed" due to its unique shape resembling a stone ship jutting into the water, Blackness Castle has a rich history and offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into Scotland's past. Blackness Castle was made even more famous by it’s portrayal of Inverness Jail in the hit TV show Outlander. 

Afternoon

After a morning of adventure you will start heading North towards Perthshire. A stop at the Trossachs Woolen Mill, a charming and picturesque destination located in the heart of the Trossachs National Park, near Callander is well-known for its high-quality woollen goods and its role in showcasing traditional Scottish craftsmanship. Take the opportunity to feed the resident highland coos with freshly made goody bags. Once the Coos have full bellies it’s time to head onto Pitlochry. Explore your home for the night, Atholl Palace, a historic and elegant destination that combines heritage with a range of modern amenities. Originally built in 1878 as a luxury hotel, it has since evolved into a charming and multifaceted attraction, offering a blend of history, relaxation, and recreational activities.

Evening

Upon arriving at Atholl Palace, take a moment to explore the beautifully maintained grounds, which include gardens, woodland trails, and a Japanese garden. If you have time, you might enjoy a visit to their Lavender Spa for a relaxing massage or dip in the swimming pool before dinner. Enjoy a delightful dining experience at The Verandah Restaurant, which overlooks the Tummel Valley and offers a menu featuring the best of Scottish produce. The restaurant serves a mix of traditional Scottish dishes and contemporary cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients such as Highland venison, fresh Scottish salmon, and Angus beef. Their wine list and selection of whiskies provide the perfect pairing for your meal.

Day 5

Soldiers Leap and Highland folks

Start your day with a scenic walk to Soldier’s Leap, located in the dramatic Killiecrankie Pass. This spot marks the legendary escape of a Redcoat soldier who is said to have jumped an astonishing 18 feet (5.5 meters) across the River Garry to flee the advancing Jacobite forces during the Battle of Killiecrankie (1689). Stroll through the lush Killiecrankie Gorge, known for its rich wildlife and stunning autumn colors if visiting in the fall. Stop at the Killiecrankie Visitor Centre, where you’ll find fascinating exhibits about the battle, the Jacobites, and the local landscape. Admire the Soldier’s Leap viewpoint, where interpretive signs explain the historical significance of this daring escape.

Next, head to Leault Farm, a must-visit for those interested in Scotland’s rural heritage. This working sheep farm offers a fascinating sheepdog demonstration, showcasing the skills of these highly trained Border Collies. Watch in awe as the dogs round up sheep with precision and speed. Learn about traditional sheep farming techniques in the Highlands. If you’re lucky, you might even get a chance to bottle-feed lambs (seasonal) or try your hand at shearing.

Afternoon

Next stop you will take a step back in time at the Highland Folk Museum, an open-air museum that brings Scotland’s past to life. Spanning over a mile, the museum has authentic reconstructed buildings from the 1700s to the 1950s, giving a glimpse into traditional Highland life. Explore a 1700s thatched Highland township, similar to the ones seen in Outlander. Visit a Victorian schoolhouse, a working blacksmith’s forge, and traditional croft houses. Enjoy interactive exhibits, including wool spinning and woodworking demonstrations. Stop by the on-site café for a quick snack or pack a picnic to enjoy in the scenic surroundings.

Day 6

Battlefields and ancient Scotland

Morning

First stop is Culloden Battlefield, a significant historical attraction located near Inverness. Explore the Visitor Centre: Learn about the events leading up to the battle, the tactics used, and the devastating aftermath. The museum features original weapons, letters, and maps from the time. Watch the Battle Immersion Film: A powerful, atmospheric 360-degree experience that puts you in the heart of the battle. Walk the Battlefield: Step onto the actual battlefield where the Jacobite and government armies clashed. Markers and interactive plaques help you understand the troop movements and the significance of each location. Visit the Clan Memorial Stone & Graves: Pay your respects at the mass burial sites of the fallen Highlanders, marked by stones bearing the names of the clans who fought that day. See the Leanach Cottage: One of the few structures that stood during the battle, offering insight into life in 18th-century Scotland.

A short drive from Culloden is the Clava Cairns, a fascinating prehistoric site located near Inverness, Scotland, and is renowned for its ancient burial monuments and standing stones. The site offers a glimpse into Scotland’s ancient past, with structures that date back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages

Afternoon

The last stop of the day is Byers Farm. The farm offers a range of experiences cantered around rural life and traditional farming. Located in the Scottish Highlands, this farm provides an opportunity to engage with Scottish agriculture and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. Enjoy a guided tour that provide insights into farm life, including how animals are cared for and how the farm operates.

End the day with the Ness Islands Walk is a peaceful and scenic route through the heart of Inverness, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. Enjoy panoramic views of the River Ness before heading downhill to the riverside. Cross the Greig Street Bridge – A charming Victorian-era suspension bridge offering great photo spots and Walk through Ness Islands – A collection of small islands in the river, connected by elegant footbridges, surrounded by ancient trees. After your relaxing walk, enjoy a wonderful dinner at The Castle Tavern – A traditional pub near Inverness Castle, great for whisky and classic Scottish dishes like haggis or fish & chips.

Day 7

Macbeth and Monsters

Morning

Start your day with a visit to Cawdor Castle, a stunning medieval fortress with ties to Shakespeare’s Macbeth (even though the historical connection is debated). Next stop Loch Ness, one of the most famous and mysterious lakes in the world. Take a cruise on Loch Ness from Clansman Harbour or Fort Augustus. Enjoy stunning views of the loch’s deep, dark waters and surrounding hills. Learn about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) through onboard commentary. Spot Urquhart Castle from the water, an iconic ruin that played a key role in Scottish history.

Afternoon

Arrive at Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most picturesque and photographed castles in Scotland. Situated on a small island where three lochs meet, this medieval fortress dates back to the 13th century. Walk across the iconic stone bridge leading to the castle entrance. Visit the Great Hall, kitchens, and bedrooms, restored to showcase life in medieval Scotland. Take in stunning views of Loch Duich, Loch Long, and the surrounding mountains. Capture incredible photos of this storybook-like setting.

Evening

Leaving the castle you will cross the Skye Bridge and make your Wy up this enchanting island to Portree. On arrival you will check into the Bosville Hotel, a stylish boutique hotel in the heart of Portree, the capital of Skye. Day 8

Harry Potter, the massacre and the birds

Morning

Kick off your day with a hike to the Old Man of Storr, one of the most famous rock formations in Scotland. Spectacular views of the Trotternish Ridge, Sound of Raasay, and the Cuillin Mountains. Capture amazing sunrise photos if the weather is clear. Next up a quick stop at Kilt Rock, a dramatic cliff formation resembling a pleated kilt, with Mealt Falls cascading 60 meters into the sea below. Enjoy the viewpoint overlooking Kilt Rock and its distinctive basalt columns. Listen for the haunting sound of the wind whistling through the cliff’s pipes. A perfect photo opportunity with the ocean as a backdrop.

Explore the otherworldly landscape of the Quiraing, a stunning landslip with jagged peaks, green valleys, and hidden trails. Start at the parking area and follow the winding path through the rocky terrain. Enjoy incredible panoramic views of Skye’s rolling hills and coastline. Spot unique rock formations like The Needle, The Table, and The Prison. From there you will move onto the Fairy Glen, a hidden gem on Skye, known for its miniature hills, mystical rock formations, and spiral stone patterns. Walk up the grassy cone-shaped hills, often called "Scotland's Hobbiton". Visit Castle Ewen, a natural rock formation resembling a ruined fortress. Create your own spiral of stones for good luck (but don’t disturb existing ones!).

Afternoon

Stop in Portree for a delicious meal before your afternoon adventure, The Granary – A great option for hearty Scottish fare. After refuelling, enjoy the rest of your day with an outdoor adventure at ACE Skye, where you can choose from thrilling activities to match your interests. Archery, Axe Throwing Coasteering, Kayaking or Paddleboarding or Rock Climbing & Abseiling.

After an action packed day rest up and recover back at the Bosville. Enjoy dinner at the Dulse & Brose – A cozy spot inside Bosville Hotel with a focus on local produce and if you have enough energy take a stroll round Portree.

Day 9

Mountains & Landscapes

Morning

Start the day with a scenic drive down to Armadale and catch the ferry back to the mainland. Arriving in Malaig you will then start the Journey towards Glenfinnan a village located near the head of Loch Shiel. Here you’ll find one of Scotland's most iconic landmarks: the Glenfinnan Viaduct. This historic railway bridge was made famous as part of the Hogwarts Express route in the Harry Potter films, and it has become a must-see for fans of the series. Just a short walk from the viaduct, the Jacobite Museum is a treasure trove for fans of the Harry Potter franchise, as well as those interested in the Jacobite Rebellions of the 18th century. The museum displays memorabilia from the films, including costumes and props, as well as information about the Jacobite Uprising.

Leaving Glenfinnan, you will take a short drive towards Fort William and experience a trip up Scotland’s highest mountain, but don’t worry, you don’t need to hike up, instead you will take the Nevis Gondola from the base of Aonach Mor, a mountain just outside of Fort William. The gondola will take you up to an altitude of around 2,000 feet, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges, valleys, and the Ben Nevis massif. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Loch Linnhe and the Arrochar Alps in the distance. The gondola ride is an exhilarating experience, giving you the chance to enjoy panoramic views over Fort William and the surrounding landscape. It’s also a fantastic way to see Scotland’s rugged beauty from a different perspective.

Afternoon

Next stop Glencoe, take a drive through Fort William following Loch Linnhe down to on of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes. Stop off at the Three Sisters Viewpoint, one of Scotland’s most dramatic and iconic locations. This spot offers stunning views of three prominent peaks that rise majestically from the valley floor. The Three Sisters (named Beinn Fhada, Gearr Aonach, and Aonach Dubh) are part of the Glen Etive mountains and have become one of the most photographed landmarks in the Scottish Highlands due to their striking beauty. The view from the viewpoint shows the rugged terrain of the glen, where the dramatic slopes of the peaks lead down to a lush green valley floor

The final part of the day will bring you back down to Cameron House, a prestigious and historic luxury resort located on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland. Take a short drive into the city centre and visit Glasgow Cathedral, the Provost's Lordship, and the Necropolis, all key historical and architectural landmarks in Glasgow, each offering unique insights into the city’s rich heritage.

Afternoon

End your wonderful tour by checking into the Grand Central Hotel, originally opened in 1883, has a rich history and has been a landmark in Glasgow for over a century. The hotel has been meticulously restored to preserve its historic charm while incorporating modern comforts. Set right in the centre of Glasgow you are ideally located to explore the city centre and your leisure.

Day 11

Farewell – Pick up & Drop Off​

After a fulfilling Scottish adventure, enjoy your final breakfast at the Grand Central Hotel, soaking in the last views of the city. Your private driver will escort you to Edinburgh Airport, where you’ll catch your flight home.
